Linden Mayor Derek Armstead Issues #GivingTuesday Proclamation, Recognizes the Ammon Foundation as Ambassador

Linden, N.J. (November 20, 2018) – Linden Mayor Derek Armstead has proclaimed November 27, 2018 #GivingTuesday, an official day of giving in Linden, N.J. and has named the Ammon Foundation the city’s ambassador of the initiative. Held annually on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving, #GivingTuesday is a global day of giving that encourages philanthropy and celebrates generosity worldwide. The international movement was designed to inspire individuals to take action to improve local communities by giving back to charities they support.

“On this #GivingTuesday it is with pleasure that I support the Ammon Foundation in their commitment in tackling addiction recovery,” said Mayor Armstead. “This is an issue that affects families throughout our great city as well as all of New Jersey. The Foundation’s dedication to helping individuals who struggle to get back on track and achieve their highest potential is incredibly admirable and should be supported by all.”

In a wonderful display of local support Greg Gillmann, the owner of Jersey Mike’s Subs in Linden’s Aviation Plaza, has chosen to partner with the Ammon Foundation for this special day. Any customers who mention “Giving Tuesday” at Jersey Mike’s Linden location on November 27th will have 20% of their sale go directly to the Ammon Foundation’s Empowerment Workshop Program.

The Ammon Foundation, the philanthropic endeavor of Ammon Labs, was inspired to become involved in this international movement in collaboration with the city of Linden to encourage philanthropy in their local community and elevate awareness about recovery from addiction. Founded in October 2016, the Ammon Foundation was established to empower individuals in addiction recovery through combating stigma and providing strategic support to enable personal success.

Out of their Linden, N.J. headquarters, The Ammon Foundation’s mission is to help individuals overcoming addiction access and sustain long-term recovery through its two core programs: the Ammon Recovery Scholars Program and the Empowerment Workshop Program. Through the Ammon Recovery Scholars Program, the Foundation offers financial scholarships to individuals in recovery to pursue education as well as support recipients academically, personally and professionally.

The Empowerment Workshop Program is an evidence-based and nationally recognized 6-module life-skills training program with the goal of arming individuals with vital life skills – bridging the gap between treatment and recovery. All workshops are facilitated by Certified Ammon Empowerment Coaches—individuals in recovery with lived experience. The Foundation believes that when individuals in recovery are holistically supported to build purposeful lives, the likelihood of them maintaining their recovery substantially increases.

#GivingTuesday was launched in 2012 by the team at the Belfer Center for Innovation & Social Impact at the 92nd Street Y in response to the over-commercialized nature of the post-Thanksgiving season. The global day of giving harnesses the power of social media to connect individuals, communities and organizations around the world in order to encourage the donation of time, resources and talents to address local challenges. In 2017, over 300 million dollars were raised online from over 150 countries as part of the movement.

“We are honored to have been selected as the City of Linden’s #GivingTuesday Ambassador,” said Ana Cordeiro, the Ammon Foundation’s Development Officer. “It’s inspiring to know we have the support of our local community as we try to raise awareness not only of our work for individuals in addiction recovery, but in the importance of coming together for the greater good.”
